Actinolite is a basic calcium, magnesium,
iron silicate, sometimes called ray stone. The name is from the Greek
akitinos, "ray"; a reference to its radiating crystal habit. It forms
in long bladed crystals (with a diamond cross section), fibrous masses, and
aggregates.
Nephrite jade is a mix of two very similar
minerals, actinolite and tremolite.
