Moldavite

Moldavite is a member of the tektite family; and as such is thought to be of extraterrestrial origin. One theory suggests that Moldavite is the result of a lunar explosion about 15 million years ago. Another suggests that this beautiful green mineral is the result of condensing gases created when a meteorite struck the earth.  Moldavite is found only in Czechoslovakia.  It is named after the Moldau River in Bohemia.

Moldavite's green color is attributed to the presence of aluminum oxide. As the only tektite with gem-quality clarity, moldavite is often used as faceting material.

Lore

According to legends of the Holy Grail, moldavite was considered a holy relic that was carved from "emeralds" that fell from the heavens. Today there is still much interest and belief in the "magical" qualities of moldavite.

Moldavite has attracted attention down through the ages. The first recorded reference was in 1787, but evidence suggests that early peoples in the middle Europe area used this stone as a talisman for good luck , for adornment and as a medium for bartering.

Popular among New Age devotees, moldavite is thought to be a channeling aid and healing stone.  It is also believed that moldavite can be instrumental in spiritual evolution.
