Morganite

This gem variety of pink beryl is found in the U.S., the former USSR, Brazil, and the Malagasy Republic. It was named after the American banker and gem lover J.P. Morgan (1837-1913) when he donated his gem collection to the American Museum of Natural History.  Other forms of beryl include aquamarine, bixbite, emerald, goshenite, heliodor, and golden beryl.

Lore

While morganite was only recently named, beryl has been known through the ages.  A good deal of the lore concerning beryl makes no distinction as to color.  In ancient times it was worn to prevent fascination and to make its bearer unconquerable. During the 16^th century it was thought to heal prejudice and was worn to assist in winning arguments, to gain understanding and cure intolerance.

"Beryl is one of the stones connected to the twelve apostles.  It serves as a symbol of the apostle Thomas in Christian tradition.  This is based of a treatise by the tenth century writer Andreas, Bishop of Casarea, one of the earliest writers to associate the Foundation Stones of Revelations twenty-one with the apostles." ¹

Morganite specifically strengthens the bonds between people in love. Wearing it enhances ones empathy for others as it bestows wisdom and patience.
