Prehnite (calcium aluminum silicate) is
a green, gray or white to colorless mineral sometimes used in jewelry; usually
as cabochons.
Prehnite is the first mineral to be
named after a person. It was named after 18th century Dutch colonel,
Colonel Hendrik van Prehn; a mineralogist. There are deposits in Australia,
China, Scotland, South Africa, and the United States.
Lore
Prehnite appears to be a stone of
meditation and dreaming. “Prehnite is believed to encourage contact with the
higher self by enhancing the visualization process. It can be used to multiply
energies and to enhance our protective fields. It is also believed to enhance
the ability to prophesy – by calling on the aid of the divine.”
1 “When meditating with this crystal, you are put
in touch with the universe’s energy grid. It is said to connect to the
Archangel Raphael and to spiritual and extra terrestrial beings, enabling you
always to be prepared, no matter what.”
2
“Prehnite is a very protective stone and
can protect one on all levels. It strengthens the life force and generally
increases and stimulates energy, while at the same time bringing powerful
calming energies. Thus, prehnite is said to ease worries and restlessness of
all kinds.” 3
“Prehnite quiets restlessness,
nervousness and worry. It helps one stay in the present moment and avoid the
unhealthy use of the imagination (eg., visualizing all the disastrous possible
futures!). Prehnite reminds one of the existence of one’s personal power at the
same time it invokes the use of that power in the service of love.”
4
“Physically, prehnite is helpful in the
healing of gout, anemia, and kidney problems.”
5
“In crystal healing, prehnite is valued
as a calming and soothing stone, helping to ease emotional stress. . . It acts
upon the heart but at a level beyond simple personal feelings, enhancing
unconditional love for all beings. Prehnite is also a good stone for healers to
use on themselves. When doing a lot of treatment work for others, it is easy to
lose sight of the balance between giving and receiving, forgetting that everyone
needs replenishment. Working with prehnite in meditation helps to heal the
healer and restore energy that may have become depleted”
