Sinhalite
Sinhalite was first recognized as an individual mineral in 1952. Prior to that time sinhalite was thought to be brown peridot. The name is from Sanskrit word for the island of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), sinhala. It is sometimes known as prismatine. The primary source of sinhalite is Sri Lanka with other sources found in Myanmar, Tanzania and Russia. Because of it's rarity well cut stones are prized by collectors. Lore Adherents of the New Age philosophies believe sinhalite will aid one in completing what they start. It is also thought to bring about personal growth and improvement.
