Sodalite

Sodalite is sometimes mistaken for lapis lazuli, of which it is a component. The name refers to the high sodium content in this stone.  While it is often veined with calcite it seldom has the pyrite specks found in lapis.  Hackmanite is a pink colored variety of sodalite discovered in 1991.

Because they are related, many believe that sodalite has properties similar  to lapis.

Sodalite is a learning stone thought to enhance communication and creative expression.  It helps clear the mind of fixed ideas, the largest impediment to learning.

Sodalite is also thought to be a grounding stone that helps to connect your thoughts to your feelings.  Especially helpful to those who dramatically over react to emotional stimulus.  "This mineral provides for the ability to arrive at logical conclusions via rational mental processes.  It helps to eliminate confusion and to both equalize and stimulate ones intellect to be compatible with each situation." ¹

As a healing stone, sodalite is used as a cure for insomnia as it helps to clear and calm the mind.  It is also thought to help in drawing infection from a wound.
