Tiger Eye

tiger eye

Tiger’s eye is a variety of quartz with very fine, fibrous inclusions.  It is formed when the inclusions in hawk's eye (an opaque quartz aggregate with inclusions of crocidolite) become oxidized.  Properly cut it exhibits a lovely chatoyant effect (changeable luster).

Pietersite is a mix of blue and gold tiger's eye. It has the chatoyantcy of tiger's eye but in wonderful swirls.

Lore

Tiger's eye has been known and used since at least the time of the ancient Egyptians.

Long associated with the eyes it is thought that possessing tiger's eye can enable one to see behind closed doors.   Medicinally, tiger's eye has seen use in the treatment of eye disease.  On a higher level it is supposed to allow one to see clearly, without illusion or obsession.

Tiger's eye is thought to bring peace and calmness to a person suffering emotional torment because it promotes clear thought and a positive attitude.

"Tiger eye can help one to become practical and of discrete mind, as well as more grounded.  It can eliminate the 'blues' and can bring brightness and optimism to the user.  It also assists in the providing insight to those issues which induce internal mental battles, delivering one from the 'horns of dilemma' and the conflicts associated with willful pride." 1

"The tiger's-eye is a fun tumbled stone to keep around.  It too is associated with the element of fire and encourages protection, bravery, and good luck.  Tiger's-eye also promotes prosperity and personal protection." 2

"Polished and set in copper, tiger's eye is a powerful charm against harmful spirit intrusions.  The brown, red, and blue tiger's eye crystals are equally effective in their healing potencies." 3
