Topaz

The name topaz probably comes from the Sanskrit word tapaz, "fire."  Gem quality topaz occurs in several colors, including colorless, pale green/yellow, yellow/orange and blue.

To the ancient Greeks topaz was the "Stone of Strength" and they believed it would impart that property to the holder. 

It is thought that topaz brings one the strength and courage to follow through to the end.  It enhances a persons ability to handle any situation and aids one in deciding which road to travel.

Down through time topaz has been thought to heal many mental and physical disorders.  Because topaz alleviates worries and fears it is thought to help with insomnia.  Topaz is supposed to help people to take control of angry emotions and it is thought to alleviate psychosomatic conditions.  Many believe that it helps ward off colds and tuberculosis.

Topaz is thought to be a stone of trust and love.  Making it an appropriate gift for the fourth wedding anniversary.
